As
per legend, the present Jagannath Mandir is about Two hundred years
ago. We came to know this from the social, religious and political
resources which is scattered here and there.
Long long years ago, this temple was on the bank of the river Kangsabati.
It was legend that the whole town was submerged under water owing
to devasted flood. After that, nobody saw the light of the sun for
seven days. After the cyclone stopped, the people saw that the river's
bed was moved towards the town. The Jagannath Temple beside the
river was absolutely abolished. But it was surprised that there
was a hut of an old widow lay upon a high land was still damageless.
During flood, the old woman was gazing at the peak of the Jagannath's
Temple. She spent the whole days sleeplessly and without food. So,
the old widow became senseless because of hungry and weakness. After
gaining her sense, she saw that there idols of Jagannath, Balaram
and Devi Subhadra were floating on the water.
The present Temple of Jagannatha was established by the then Jamindar,
Sj Janmenjoy Mallick, a reputed businessman this locality. This
temple was built by a great Architect named Madhab Ch. Mistri, in
the year 1851.
